REMARKABLE METEOR.
To the Editor.
Sir,—We were rather startled here this evening, at
about 6.15 p.m., by the observance of a most extraordinary
meteor, resembling a ball of fire, which appeared in the
south, travelling with great velocity in a slightly western
direction, and leaving in its wake, what we thought at first,
was a luminous streak, but which afterwards appeared to be
either steam or smoke, as it gradually assumed different
forms, and in the course of, say ten minutes, slowly melted
away.
I have seen many large meteors, and some which appeared
to travel with a much wider orbit, but none that resembled
this one, especially in the matter of the train of smoke,
steam, or whatever else it might have been.
Yours truly,
D. A. CAMERON.
