How We . Puzzled the
Germans.
LONDON, February 12. I
,Mr. Philip Gibbs humorously explains j
the German* communiques in reference to I
the British 'snow shirts.' The troops at I
the'front have recently been enlivened by
curious 6tories * of officers shopping
in French Tillages and buyirig up ladies'
nightdresses. The Canadian trenches
during Saturday night echoed with
the laughter of hundreds of brawny
men donning nightdresses tied with
blue ribbons over their khaki. That
same, night, in bright moonlight, the same
men went out across the snow-covered no
man's land. Many of the white robes
were stained with red before the adven
ture ended, but the Germans, glimpsing
the fantastic figures, quickly surrendered
or were slain, and the so-called 'Pierrots'
returned lijcbt-hearted-y bringing in their
prisoners. The Go-dons carried out a
similar successful raid, wearing white
smocks and *'hite-painted hebnete.
