New Zealander Castigates
UNO Over Palestine Crisis
Lake Success, Sat: Political Committee of General Assembly today voted 37 to nil, with 15 absten-
tions to send UNO mediator to Palestine. Committee also voted to relieve Palestine Commission of
further responsibilities.

to 7, with 16 abstensions.
During the debate, Sir Carl
Berendsen (NZ) called As-j
sembly's work "pitifully in-1
adequate and dismal."
He expressed disappoint-]
ment and apprehension as
the "result of our failure to
grapple with the realities of
the situation." ¡
UNO delegates, he added,]
would do better when they
learned to keep peace and
order in the world "instead of
making speeches over a mic-j
rophone at Lake Success."
At special General Assem-
bly held . tonight - to. : discuss
Politi-al Committee's earlier
action, it was decided by 20
to 15 with 19 absentations not
to accept LTS proposal to es-
tablish a trusteeship type re-
gime for Jerusalem.
Vote, however, lacked the
required two-thirds majority.
Arab-Soviet-Britisb objection
led to the rejection of the
scheme.
Australia abstained ..from
voting on both Assembly re-
solutions. New Zealand voted
in favor of both.
Assembly adjourned tonight
after a month's session on
Palestine which began April
16 and during which only
measure approved was one
sending a mediator to Pales-
tine.
