Ito Oppose 40 Hour Week
Australian Wheafgrowers' Federation will fight the 40-hour week in the Arbitration.
Court. Announcing this, secretary T. C. Stott, M HA, said; the motion passed at yester- J
day's sittings of the AWF in Perth was that the 40-hour week must increase the cost of
Primary production beyond an economic level and imperil the national economy. i
? Federation secretory is empowered to prepare a case
l and present it before the Arbitration Court. j
A resolution that will' affect
WA is that the Govt be asked to
institute scientific research to
make well water fit for human
consumption and vegetable grow-
ing.
Main resolutions passed were:
. Govt. investigate possibilities
of wireless telephony for country
subscribers.
. Leaders of all political par-
ties be informed of the decisions
of the AWP on concessional wheat
price and stabilisation.
. AWP ask the Federal Govt.
for continuance of barley stabili-:
sation for 5 j'ears.
. Reduction in taxation as an
incentive to increased production.
. Federation take action to
have the price of power fuels and
oils reduced.
. Urges the reintroduction of
the old system of repatriation,
whereby selected property, eould
be bought by ex-Servicemen
transferred through the Lands
Dept.
. Mortgage Bank be expanded,
greater finance provided, and in-
terest rates reduced.
