CARNIVAL TO
AID SAFE
BEACH DRIVE
Adelaide's popular beaches will, it is
hoped, soon be made safer thanks to the
activities of the Beach Safety Committee.
Plane include the erection of adequate pro
tection at beach areas.
Sponsored by 'The Mail' and 'The
News' the movement is being enthusias
tically backed by public bodies and
prominent citizens.
To raise funds the committee will hold
carnivals at seaside resorts. The first
will be at Gleneltr from next Saturday
until Saturday, .February 13 An attraCsve
programme is being arranged for each I
Saturday afternoon and week night. '?
Although most beaches have been free
from sharks, risk exists, and any move
to obviate it is worthy of support. There
is no need to scare bathers, but some form
of protection, whether shark-nets or baths,
will give a sense of security, especially to
those who bathe at night.
The carnival will open on Saturday
afternoon with a street march and quirk
step competition, by leading metropolitan
and country bands. There will be a j
massed concert on Colley Reserve at night, j
Programmes are being arranged by the i
South Australian Amateur Athletic As- i
sociation, the Motor Cycle Club of South j
Australia, professional athletes, gymnasts, ;
concert parties, and others. There will i
be many sideshows. j
The carnival will end with a special day '
for children on Saturday, February 13. i
The secretary of the Boy ' Scouts'- Asso- '
ciation (Mr. F. J. Mills) is planning novel
attractions. I
Donations towards the funds of the com- |
mittee will be acknowledged by the s^c- '
retary (Mr. R. B: Pounsett) at 'The
News'' office.
