CORRESPONDENCE
Stars' Letter Rack
Thirty-three persons in Hollywood
receive more mail than any other group
of equal number In the world. They
are the stars and featured players un-
der contract to Paramount. They re-
ceive an average of 10,000 letters a day,
250,000 a month, 3,000,000 a year. Their
mail is delivered to a post office 10 by
15 feet in size-probably the busiest
150 square feet in the country.
The Paramount Corporation, because
of its contract players, receives more
mail than any other firm or indivi-
dual of the West, according to P P.
O'Brien, Postmaster pf Los Angeles.
O'Brien doubts if the record ls equalled
by any other receiver of mail in the
country, except, perhaps, one' of the
national mail order firms.
?Although it may seem strange, this
vast quantity of mail is not delivered
to the studio. To expedite its hand-
ling, the ulm corporation has a truck
assigned to call at the Hollywood post
office, where the letters are picked up
in sacks several times a day. ' Distribu-
tion is made at the studio.
The chief recipient of mail is Clara
Bow, Paramounfs gamin of the red
hair and flashing eye-the girl who
made "It" a household, word. She re-
ceives on an average almost 40,000 let»
tera a month.
Other stars od the Paramount lot
who keep Uncle Sam's mail clerks busy
are Bebe Daniele, Esther Ralston, Flo-
rence Vldor, George. Bancroft, Richard
Dix. Emil Jannings, Adolphe Menjou,
and Charles Rogers.
There are 23 men under contract to
Paramount, their quota of mail'being
included in the grand' total of 10,000
tetters a day. ' ' - '; :
