THE SOCCER WORLD
SUBIACO SURPRISE THISTLE :
-?
Perth City's Improved Form
There were some interesting games
in Soccer «ode yesterday.
FIRST LEAGUE.
In the Thistie-Subiaco game on the
Esplanade Subiaco took the lead after
16 minutes' play. Following some
clever footwork. Humble shot for goal,
and Kirke allowed the ball to slip
through his fingers into the net. The
rest of the half was of a ding-dong
character without any further goals
being scored. On resuming Thistle
had the best of play territorially, but
failed to penetrate the rock-like de-
fence of their opponents. With 15
minutes left for play (following a
strenuous attack on the Thistle goal),
Wilderspin secured, and drove a "pile
driver" into the net, Kirke having no i
chance to save. Final: Subiaco, 2
goals; Thistle, nil.
The first half of the Victoria Park
Perth City game at Wellington-square
was largely in favor of the former for
whom Fyfe, Jones, and Conduit (2)
scored. On resuming the City had the
best of matters, and Eke and Jackson
reduced their side's arrears. Final:
Victoria Park, 4 goals; Perth City, 2.
Caledonians led throughout in their
game with North Perth at Cottesloe
Beach Oval. Half-time found the
scores 3-1 in their favor. In the sec-
ond half North Perth had a little more
of the play. Guthrie (4) and Newall
<2) scored for the Scotsmen, and A.
Martin, P. Martin and Pearce replied.
Final: Caledonians, 6 goals; North
Perth, 3.
The Claremont-Cottesloe Casuals
game at the Association Ground,
Claremont, produced a fast and excit-
ing encounter. Boys gave the com-
bine the lead, after Andy Gordon hal
failed with a penalty kick for Casuals.
Warden equalised soon after, and com-
pleted his "hat trick" before the inter-
val. The second half was fairly even,
both goals being visited in turn. War-
den increased his tally to five, and
Hack and Ismail both found the net
for the combine. Final: Casuals, 5
goals; Claremont-Cottesloe, 3.

Fremantle led throughout in their
game with East Claremont at the Port.
Ducker, Wallace, Evans, and Hamblett
(2) netting for them. Final: Fre-
mantle, 5 goals; East Claremont, nil.

fair. Harden scored the only goal for
the home team in the first half. Final:
Armadale, 1 goal; Guildford, nil.
The Midland-Maylands match, at
Muirfield Park, was fairly even until
the last 15 minutes, when Maylands
scored three goals. Lorgie (2), H. Mil-
ler (2), and McLaren were successful
for the winners, and Swann replied
for the Railwaymen. Final: Maylands,
5 goals; Midland, 1 goal.
RESERVE LEAGUE.
Bassendean had the best of matters
throughout their game with Caledo-
nians, at Bassendean. Osborne, Muller
and Ruffell scored for them. Final:

at Woodville Reserve was very even.

penalty luck. R. Martin equalised, and
