ON THE RIVER
YESTERDAY'S YACHTING EVENTS

MOUNTS BAY SAILING CLUB.
The Mount's Bay Sailing Club
opened its *-ea&on yesterday afternoon,
when a general handicap race was
conducted. Just prior lo the depar-
ture of the club, steamer Emerald the
season was officially opened by " the
club patron (Sir Edward Wittenoom).
In a leading breeze the boats were
sent away on their respective handi-
cap si " Westralia was first away, fol-
lowed by Wattle, Shamrock, Melody,
Zinnia, Eileen, Belle, Meie Bilo, Aus-
tralian and Cinderella. At the start
Australian was some two minutes
late, while White Wings was too late
to start. Qn the square reach to
Crawley, Australian flew a spinnaker
and ringtail, while Meie -Bilo and
Eileen were content with ringtail and
balloon jibs.. Before fetching Craw-
ley Buoy the eighteens experienced
some nasty puffs, from down the Can-
ning River, and thought it better to
toke down their r installa After
rounding Crawley Buoy, Meie Bilo
passed Eileen and drew away a quar-
ter of a minute on Australian, but
Australian and Eileen were not to be
beaten, and when Brickland>ng waa
rounded the former had caught up
about a minute on her rival Times
at this mark were:-Wattle 4.6.15,
Zinnia 4.10.55, Melody 4.11.22, Eileen
4.15.65, Belle 4.16.0, Meie Bilo 416.10,
Australian 4.16.32, Cinderella being
untimed. On the run home Cinderella
moved up into fourth .place, while
Australian passed Meie Bilo, Melody
and E leen. Finishing times were:
? Zinnia 5.3.3, Wattle 5.3.5.. Belle 6.5.62.
! Cinderella 5.6.5, Australian 6.7.3. Meie
Bilo 5.7.21, Melody 5.7.50, and Eileen.
ROYAL PERTH YACHT CLUB. .
The Royal Perth Yacht Club held i
their second race of the season yester-
day when the Wreford Cup was con-
tested. The new restricted boat El-
dora, sailed by W. G. Green, had an
easy win, the times being:-Eldora
4.43.29. Genevieve (Dr. Timms) 4.61.14.
Rctohine (A. H. Leggatt) 4.SL86, then
came Adelma and Ailsa. j
CLAREMONT YACHT CLUB. j
The Claremont Yacht Club held
their opening race over the usual
Claremont course yesterday afternoon,
wben 36 boats faced the starter.

PERTH DINGHY CLUB. <
The Perth Dinghy Club held their
usual weekly handicap race yesterday.

flying start 15 boats crossed the line ]
in one of the best starts ever wit-
nessed on the Swan River. Nimrod
with her big sail gradually forged
ahead, with Desire and Rowena in
close attendance Times at Crawley,
were:-Nimrod 3.46.7, Desire 3.45.17,
Rowena 3.45.25. Joker 3.45.42, Warri
gul 3.45. 45, Gaiety 3.45.54, West 3.46.5,
Caress 3.46,12, Citroen 3.46.34, Citroen ,
3.46.53, Native 3.46.56, W.A. 3.47.0, then
j came Salome. Elf, Wallaby and
Mina in that order. On the
j reach to Bricklanding many of ;
: the boats found difficulty in
trying to caçry spinnakers. Wallaby i
retired o£f Dundas. Times at Brick- .
landing were:-Nimrod 4.1S.35. Rowena ¡
4.19.25. Citroen 419.45, Desire 4.19.52,
Joker 4.20.16. Warrlgul 4.20.28. Caress
4.20.54, the rest being untimed. On
the homeward journey little difference
was seen on corrected times adjusted
on leading breeze handicaps. Joker
was the winner at 5.1 I.S. Nimrod
second at 5.11.21, Rowena 5.11.S2, and
Mina 5.13.8.
A.N.A. SAILING CLUB.
The A.N.A. Sailing Club opened
their season yesterday with a race for
the semi-raters. Eight boats started,
and out of these Scylla retired. Radi-
ant capsized off Crawley' baths, while
on the reach to Bricklanding Georgette
carried away her ringtail. Finishing
times were:-Miranda first 5 5.51,
Reola second 5.6.41, and Schemer third
