PHILLIPS-MOORE IN
DISAPPOINTING GAME

Close champion John Hann won a disappointing single from
16-year-old Barry Phillips-Moore 6-4, 6-2, in district tennis at Memorial
Drive this afternoon.
Hann soon realised
Phillips-Moore was play
ing erratically, and wisely '

tacular, being content to
let tiie junior make the
mistakes

Phillips-Moore might make
a match of it acainst
Hann. but he never looked
the winner.
Hann played steadily
and let the junior lose the
points.
Phillips-Moore did some
brilliant shots, but broke
down badly with his vol
leys. He had no real
answer to some perfect
length lobbing by Hann.
Barry Sumner and Hann
won two singles for Ken
sington, but then Gavin
Battye and Ross Lock did
the same for West Tor
ren.s. leaving the result
dependant on the doubles.
Kensington took the
match when Hann— Sum-
ner beat Battye — Phillios-
Moore in straight sets.

Warhurst banged his
way through the first set:

Johnson broke through :
Warhurst to lead 5-4, then|
srrved two doubles to drop,
the next game. Warhurst
took the match with
several unplayable services.
Tlie feature of thei

was the way in which Dick
Potter trounced State;
player Dudley Goodger.
He took the first set 6-1.
and carried on to 4-1 in
the second with some
bright hitting.
Goodger struggled hard
to get the next three
games before going down
6-1. 6-4.
