CONTEST., . ' .'
The Empire Day rifle contest, promoted '
by the "Daily Mail," will be concluded by the
day. The competition ia confined to ,
militia, volunteer, police, of civilian, rifle ,
clubs in the British Empire, or British
rifle clubs in foreign countries-,and the con-
ditions aré seven shots at 200, 500, and 600'
yards, with any '.303 service rifle, Bisley
positions, any ammunition, and any non
telescopic sight. Any ntirnber of men
from any unit may compete, but Only the
eight highest scores are to be counted. ' A
200-guinea cup wdl go td the club in the v
Empire compiling the highest score for one
year, but two 50 guinea cups will bo pre-
sented to the clubs compiling the highest \
score iii the United Kingdom, and in other .
parts of the 'Empire respectively. Numer* \
ous other prizes will be given. It was/,
optional for clubs to shoot on Saturday or
to-day. , \
The Recabeds Rifle Club competed in thos
event, and fired on Saturday. 0*whg"ta .

of the afternoon firing at the three ranjë*
was not completed in goou time. Only" f;
nine men finished at the 600 yards range.
This was in the dusk, and seores-herè Were *

the "Daily Mail" matches. In the former
the Ballarat Infantry ( 7th A.IiRJ com-..
piled the "highest score with 2,032 poinfe,--'
and in the "Dafly Mau" match the Mel- ~
böurne club led with 70 points. 1 .
