AJ.S. RECORD.
AN ASTOUNDING' PERFORMANCE.
J. Sideboltom, a track rider in Mel
bourne, is an .A.J.S, enthusiast, and in his
past 25 starts has had 2i wius. That is
a record hard to beat. The' larger per
centage hns been ir^ match or scratch
races against Victoria's best riders, and
handicap events hare not come into' the
picture to _ any extent. Sidebottom's
last great win was the Australasian Motor
Cycle Derby, contested at the Melbourne
motordrome. Ho won in great style, and
at the finish was shouldered by his. com
rades and given the cup, after which he
was paraded around the motordrome in an
outfit. . Halfway through the proceedings
a protest was announced. Though the
V.M.C.C. was satisfied with- the. ride, the
race was again .contested. Sidebottorat
got into his stride, and' hung on the
wheel of the protestant until nearly the
last lap. Then he opened magnificently,'
and completed the last lap .at ' approxi
mately 100 miles an hour. The crowd
yelled itself- hoarse in appreciation of the
magnificent exhibition. . ;?
EASTER ECHOES FROM WARRAGUL.
An interesting leaflet was brought to
Adelaide from Melbourne by Mr. C. L.
Moyle, entitled 'His Easter Egg,' or the
'Lion's Share' (of the victories at War
ragul during Easter week). The leaflet
refers to five firsts, sis. seconds, and, one
third, secured by A.J.S: riders at that
meeting. On -Easter Monday -a .flying
quarter-mile- speed trial and freak hill
climb were' held, and the honours fell to
Black and Gold machines. Simcock
clocked 76.7 miles' an' hour, and J. Stewart
70.3, thus getting first and second in the
350 c.c. class. In the under 600 c.c. claw
Simcock accomplished 70 milea an hour
on the 4.08 h.p.-'model,- while Stewart did
70.7. Incidentally, the fastest time of
tne day- (81 .3 -miles an hour)— only 1.8
faster than Simcock's time' on a: 4.98 h.p;
machine) wns mada on a 15 h.p. Twin:

into second place in the under' 600 c.c. side*
car class, with A. Lewis (2 J h.p. «decar)
third. In the freak, hill climb the star
performer was A. 'Bruce on his ,4.08 h.p.
and sidecar. Sidecars to the number of
Eeven attempted the climb,' but' only two'
got up, Bruce's time being/ only two
seconds slower than the fatest Bolo;man's!
X). Benton, riding his reliability ' trial
(machine in full touring trim, ; including
electric light, obtained second place in. the
all powers solo climb, admitted to be 'the
neatest, of the day, the machine !not waver
ing an inch. He was beaten for first place
by 'one-fifth of-a second by a special, four
valve racing machine, stripped to the. last
ounoe. A. Bruce, on a 2$ h.p. -side valve
machine, which had . been ridden by L.
