S.A.N.RA. ANNUAL MATCHES.
The secretary of the South Australian
National Rifle Association (Mr. A. Cornish)
reckons, judging from the interest already
Rimwn. that the annual matches which arc
to be fired' at the Port Adelaide ranges
will be most successful. The competition
is* to open on Saturday next, when the
defence rifle clubs matches will be contest
ed. These are expected to extend over
Monday. On Tuesday the association's
programme will begin, and last for the re
mainder of the week. Bur the King's
Match, which carries an aggregate of £380
in prizes and gold and 6ilver medals, 620
entries (155 in each stage) have been receiv
ed. This contest takes the place of the
championship of last year, for which 497
entered. For the Teams Match 14 will com
pete, being seven fewer than, last year, and
there is also a decrease in tbe numbers for
the Hipwell Match, 94, as again 123, which
is accounted for by the fact that this dees
net now count towards the championship.
For the section slrinnishing, the list' of
which is open to date of firing, nine teams
have entered. The Simpson trophy, also
post entries, has already secured 52 competi
tors; the full number at last meeting was
31. ? For the Gordon Match with disappear
ing targets at unknown distances ISO names
have been received; this takes the place of
the rapid firing fixture of last year, in
whieh 133 competed. The Commonwealth
Match is the largest event in Australia, and
is/fired alternately in the several states.
[this year it will take place at Port Ade
laide, and it is expected that from 12 to 15
men from each state will participate hi it.
Railway paases have been issued by the
Premiers of the various states, and the
