Metropolitan Weather.
Today's Forecast: "Fine and

Abbey Appeal.
Australians wil be asked to
contribute to the restoration of
Westminster Abbey. The Prime
Minister (Mr. Menzies) said
yesterday that he had asked the
Premiers to set up committees in
each State. The appeal would
be made on the basis that the
abbey belonged to no section or
group but to every member of
the Christian faith, he said. He
expected a representative of the
abbey to visit Australia in Aug
ust or September to assist in ar
rangements for the appeal.
Kwinana Cargoes.
In the next fortnight seven
overseas ships are expected at
Fremantle with materials for
the Kwinana . Construction
Group. Since January 27, 17
ships-mostly from overseas
have reached Fremantle . with
goods consigned to the group.
Yesterday the British freighter
Tregothnan arrived with 500
tons of cement, 700 tons of steel
and a 25-ton mobile crane for
Kwinana. The crane was un
loaded from :the deck of the
ship with an 80-ton capacity
floating crane. Included in the
cargo were 73 steel piles in 65ft.
lengths, 12 of 55ft. and sit of
60ft.
Loan Service.
From today a day and night
service will be available to in
vestors in the 17th Security
Loan in the metropolitan area.
The deputy-director of loan
campaigns (Mr. R. Shilkin) said
yesterday that there were many
people in the metropolitan area
interested in mnaking loan invest
ments who could not visit a bank
during normal banking hours.
Representatives of the loan org
anisation would visit the private
homes or business addresses of
anyone in the metropolitan area
who wanted to invest in the 17th
Security Loan. People wishing
to have a representative call on
them should ring BA3113,
BA7665 or after hours 8312301.
Submarine Leaves.
The British sulimarine H.M.S.
Thorough will leave Fremantle
this morning for Singapore,
where she will refit for seven
months. The boat is expected
to reach Singapore on March
30. Yesterday the crews. of
Neptune bombers from the
R.A.4.F. Station at Pearce visit
ed the Thorough and discussed
plans for an exercise in which
aircraft will locate the submar
ine several hundred miles off the
coast. Two classes of national
service trainees were shown over
the submarine yesterday. The
ocean minesweepers H.M.A.S.
Mildura and H.M.A.S. Fre
mantle, which trained with the
Thorough earlier in the week,
yesterday carried out gunnery
qualifying tests at sea.
