Beer Strikers'
Tactics Check
Hotelkeepers
BROKEN HILL, Saturday.— Publicans
who last week defied the union ban
by driving beer supplies from the rail
way depot in their cars must now fetch
ineir own groceries, iuei, and every
other household commodity from the
local shops.
So strict has been the Barrier Indus-*
trial Council's ban in the fight against
the increased beer prices that one
licensee has walked out of his hotel
and forwarded his keys to the brejvery
owners in Sydney.
The brewery immediately installed a
new licensee. The unions had not
only declared beer black, but refused
to permit the transport of supplies from
the railway depot.
This we^k hotelkeepers went in a
body to the depot and carried back
their beer in cars and lorries.
The Barrier Industrial Council kept
a check on hotels which re-stocked in
this way, and declared 21 of them
banned for any services.
Beer re-stocked last Tuesday by the
publicans' swoop on the railway goods
shed was mostly bottled. It is having
a fair sale, but it is possible that ttes
Barrier Industrial Council will picket
hotels on Monday in retaliation for the
mass move by the licensees.
