SWORN IN as GOVERNOR. ~"

Sir Gerald Strickland officially landed in
Sydney this morning and was sworn in
as Governor of New South Wales. . The
landing was made in Farm Cove, where the |
scene presented was a brilliant one. As .
his Excellency was stepping from the pontoon
the Lord Mayor stepped forward and was
presented by the Premier. Alderman
Cocks, wearing his full official regalia, with
peaked official list, added his quota to the
gorgeousness? of the display, which was increased
by the scarlet and ermine of the
High; Court judges, who mingled with the
crowd of waiting officials and legislators
to join in the formalities attendant upon
the Governor's arrival. There was some
idea that several presentations would be
made at the place of landing, but here
the" ceremony wars entirely of" a civic
nature. -Half a dozen city aldermen were
in-'turn'presented by the Lord," Mayor,
who then- read " an address of "welcome.
was ,hen''Sir"Gt-tald Strickland 'made"his;'ap-
pearance on the high roadway Wound the
Domain he was greeted with a round of
hearty cheering by, the crowd, and the
cheering was continued throughout the
route of the procession. The Governor and
his suite '"were -driven to the Chief Secretary's
office: There the swearing-in ceremony
was gone through and unaddressed
welcome was presented.
