TOUIIST ASSOCIATION.
tElta'iNG OF COMMQMITE
A meeting of the committee' of the
tourist association was held at the
Tourist Bureau last night. Mr. E. Whit
feld presided, and there were present:-'
Messrs. R. J. Sadler, M.ILA., C. R. Olney,
A. recher, and F. Holmes. Apologies
were received fromn Messrs. II. R. Smith,
W. Perrin, and W. R. Raolph.
A large :umount of correspondence was
read and dealt with. Professor W. Wil
son, School of Mince, University College,
Auckla'nd, wrote, thanking the associa
lion for the information and photographs
forwarded relative to mining in Tasma
nia, and stating that lie was publishing
an article on the matter of Tasmania's
mineral resources, which would be:lavish.
ly illustrated.
The council clerk, George Town muni
cipality (Mr. A. I. R.Quinn), wrote, ac
lknowledging receipt of five direction
boards for the municipality, and stating
that same w-ould be immediately placed
in position.
Mr. John IIaigh, Ansons Bay, wrote,
stating that motors could now come
through from St. Helen's via Priory, and
also reporting an excellent tourist se-

lion, Hobart, wrote, stating that a new
boat had been secured for Lake St. Clair,
and necessary repairs would shortly be
undertaken in connection with the house
at tideis picturcesque lake.
The patronage accorded Lake Leake
house hais exceeded expectations, and
the committee intend to n.pproach tho Go
venunent with a view to enlargements
and improviements for next season.
Twenty-one municipalities were ap
proached with a. view of a frame of views
being prepared by each municipality, set
ting forth its attractions for visitors, the
sinme to be placed in the Tourist Bureau.
Very little interest ihas been manifested
by those approached. In only seven
casces was any reply received to the let
ter sent out.
The association is joining with 'the
Portland municipality in having a track
cleared to the St. Columba Falls.
The chairman reported that the amount
of £13 had been forwarded to the Fin
g?l council as their proportion of cost

l)uing the month two sets of slides
have been loaned for lecturing purposes
in South Australia and West Australia
respcctively.
It was decided tint a united effort;
should be made by the association and
the Automobile Club to induce the Go
vernmuent to improve portion of Mole
Crceek-Chudleigh-road, aanl also to com
plete the romcl into Baldock's Caves be
fore next season.
An improveument is being added to the
motorists' and cyclists' map of Tasmania
published by the association by the addi
tion -of another inset, taking in a large
proportion of the N.W. Coast roads. In
acts will be added as opportiuity
affords, so that each portion of the
state's road system will be dealt with.
As delegate from the association, the
secretary outlined the slops taken in
connection with the Great Tamar Valley
publicity scheme to date.
A large amount of -general correspon
dence was tabled and received.
The association intend carrying out
some necessary improvements and. con
veniences at Ba-ldock's Caves in readiness
for next season, as the traflic during the
past season fully warrants the expendl
ture.
After the passing of the accounts the
meeting concluded.
