DAVIS CUP.
A Surprise for Pails.
LQNDON, April 23.-In appar
ently serious suggestion by a British
Davis Cup selector that Dinny Pails
should be invited to play in the
British Davis Cup team against
France on May 10 was immediately
rejected by the chairman of the
selection committee (Mr. F. P.
Stowe) who commented: "If Pails
were invited it would upset the
entire tennis world and Australia in
barticular."
Another member of the commit
tee, Mr. R. L. Crawford, expressed
the opinion that "it was a very bright
The apparent reason for the sug
gestion that Pails should play for
England is that he was born in
Nottingham.
[Questioned yesterday at the
King's Park Tennis Club where he
was playing in the State lawn ten
nis championships Pails expressed
surprise at the idea that he shouldi
play for England. He said that he
was born in Nottingham, but was
brought to Australia when a year
old. "All my tennis has-been played
in Australia," he said, "and I think
it is up to me to do my best for
Australian tennis if selected for the
Australian Davis Cup team."]
