SYDNEY MEETING.
Waterside Workers' Proposals.
BYDNEY, Jan. 15.--A further ef
fort to man the Dutch vessels held
up In Astralian ports because of a
"black" ban by unions was made to
day at a meeting of waterside work
ers' unions, when it was decided to
load cargo if the ships were taken
over by Australian crews or were
worked under Australian charter.
In addition, the unions offered to
load the ships if, operated under
Dutch control, the Dutch authorities
gave an undertaking that all cargoes
on reaching their destination would
be handed over to the British Com
mander-in-Chief (General Christi
son) or the Red Cross for distribu
tion. A further provision was that
a Government observer should travel
on each ship.
The Minister for Supply and Ship
ping (Senator Ashley) intimated
that if the unions' proposals were
acceptable to the Dutch authorities,
supplies could be made available to
get the first vessel away within three
days.
The secretary of the Labour Coun
oil (Mr. R. A. King) tonight said
the onus was now on the Dutch
authorities.
