ALLEGED SUSPICIOUS DEATH.
(By Telegraph. )
Melbourne, January 8.
An indignation meeting of the citizens,
of St. Kilda was held in the Town Hall
to-night — the Mayor in the chair — to con
sider the circumstances of the recent
sudden death of a butcher named Hart.
A medical certificate was given that death
resulted from serous apoplexy, but it was
asserted by several speakers that there
were grave suspicions that death was the
result of ill-treatment, he having been
roughly used the night before his
death at his own house. A number
of insinuations were made respecting the
relations of Mrs. Hart with an ex-minister
of the gospel who has been living in the
house. A private circular which she
issued with respect to the death was read
at the meeting. It was resolved to ask
the Coroner to hold a searching enquiry.
Great excitement has been caused in St.
Kilda by the matter.
