U.S. Professor To Go
Behind Iron Curtain
London, Saturday: An American professor, ordered to
leave Britain, is going behind the Iron Curtain. He is Dr.
Joseph H. Cort (26). Mr. Anthony Wedgwood Benn, Labor
M.P., told this to «he Ho&iso.of Commons.

University, had his permit,
to stay in England revoked i
when he was warned that!
he would lose his American

Mr. Benn said Dr. Cort
joined the Communist
Party while at . Yale Uni- ¡
versity, but there was no
suggestion that he was en-
gaged in political activity.
When he had been three
months at Cambridge
University, he received a
letter from, the American
Embassy asking him to
'hand in his passport, and
'to return to the U.S. He
¡asked the reason, but was
not toidi and he declined tb
comply with, the instruction,

, jobs, and he was afraid
that if he returned to
