Stump Marks
The Site Of
Royal Picnic
YORK. Mon.-The spot on
the Perth-road where the Queen
and the Duke of Edinburgh had
afternoon tea when returning
from York on March 31 last
has now been established.
The York Road Board has
been informed by the Pre
mier's Department that the
Commissioner of Police (Mr. T.
Andersen), in company with
Inspector R. Pilmer, visited the
area and located the spot about
one-tenth of a mile past the 33=
mile post on the road to York.
It could be identified by the
stump of a sawn-off tree about
2ft. 6in. high which was direct
ly in front of and very close to
a growing tree at the edge of
the road formation on the left
hand side going towards York.
The secretary of the board
has been instructed to submit
suggestions with the estimated
cost of a suitable commemora
tive tablet.
