EGYPTIANS SAY
NEW U.S. NOTE
UPHOLDS THEM
CAIRO, Fri.-The inde
pendent newspaper "Al Ah
ram" said today that an
American Note gave "full
support for Egypt's viewpoint
regarding the Apglo-Egyptian
dispute over the Suez Canal
zone."
-It said that the Note was
handed by the U.S. Ambassador
(Mr. Jefferson Caffery) to the
Egyptian Foreign Minister (Dr.
Fawvzi) yesterday.
"The United States Govern
ment has communicated to.the
Egyptian Government its recom
mendations for settlement of the
dispute," said the paper.
"The American Note is con
sidered to be a diplomatic vic
tory for Egypt, while placating
Britain."
Recommendations
According to the Wafdist news
paper "Al Misri" the U.S. re
commendations for a settlement
are:
* Recognition by Britain of
Egypt's full sovereignty over all
her territory.
* All foreign experts, includ
ing British and American, should
be under Egyptian control.
* Modern arms and military
equipment should be given to
the Arab countries.
* Egypt, occupying the leader
ship among the Middle East
countries, should receive effec
tive American economic aid so
that she may combat Commun
ism and raise Egyptian stan
dards of living.
