Ending Meat
Plan "Not
Considered"
CANBERRA, ,Friday.-The
Commonwealth Government
has not considered ending the
15-year meat agreement with
Britain, according to the Min
ister for Commerce ,(Mr.
McEwen).
Personal investigation led him
to believe that most producers
and processors favoured its re
tention, he added.
Mr. McEwen was comment
ing on suggestions made at
yesterday's meeting of the Liti
eral Party's Federal Council
that Australia should withdraw
from the agreement and restore
trader to trader dealings.
The agreement could be
ended by decision of the two
Governments, said Mr. Mc
Ewen.
Australia would be glad to re
vert to trader to trader dealing,
but the British Government,
because of rationing and other
factors, preferred government
buying.
