Order Sought
For Port
Extensions
Ministers and engineers
were making contradictory
statements on the Fre
mantle harbour scheme. Mr.
Sleeman (Lab., Fremantle)
said in the Legislative As
sembly last night.
He moved a motion urging
the Goverpment to "investi
gate the ever-changing contra
dictory Statements" and "to
tell the House in what order
they intend to make the ex
pansions."
Mr. Sleeman said that the
Engineer for Harbours and
Rivers (Mr. F. W. E. Tyde
man) had reported that the
road bridge would be the first
of the two bridges across the
Swan River near Fremantle to
be moved.
The Minister for Transport
(Mr. Simp bn) had later said
that the rail bridge would be
moved to Point Brown first,
the traffic bridge remaining
until the end of its useful life.
Later still, Mr. Simpson' said
that both bridges had to be
moved in the near future.
The Tydeman recommenda
tions were to improve the
Snorth and south quays before
I the construction of any new
Sberths. Mr. Simpson had said
that improvements could not
be carried out until new
berths were provided.
The debate was adjourned.
