Promotion For U.S. Officers
In Pacific
WASHINGTON, Feb. 9.
President Roosevelt has nomina-
ted Maj-Gen. Millard Harmon, at
present in command of the Army
Air Force units in the South Paci-
fic, to be a lleut-general. A
White House spokesman said that
the US Naval commander in the
South Pacific <Adml. Halsey)
had recommended the promotion
because of the success of Army and
Navy co-operation in the Solo
mons.
Brig-Gen. Nathan Twining who
was rescued from the Coral Sea
last week, has been nominated as
major-general, and Col. Jens Doe
and Col. Clarence Martin, who
were prominent in the New Guinea
campaign, have been nominated as
major-generals.
