Sheep In Heavy
Supply

Following the record yarding of sheep
at the Abattoirs market last week when
21,500 sheep and 11,500 lambs were sub-
muted, tbere was' a heavier penning yes
?.erday, when 23,000 sherp and 10.300

varied from cracker to prime and lat.

portion in very poor order, the majo
rity ot the ewes were of a type suit
able for canning and dehydration.
The sheep were derived principally

south-eastern districts, with a few drafts
tram the marginal pastoral areas.

quality lambs were very scarce, odd
pens of good to prune fresh condition
sorts being available, but the majority
were of fair to usefif! type only, with
many in store order.
HOW THEY SOW
127 Suffolk cross shorn lambs, tram
Lower Worth, good line, rather uneven
to weight, fairly sappy, all toad trade
condition with few on hoggety side,
weight 37 lb, pelt 7<J, to 22/10, ave
raging 21/7.
35 Dorset cross shorn lambs from
north, medium to good length, tew on
leg. uneven In conformation and weight,
average good trade quality, weight 36 lb.,
40 Dorset cross lately shorn lambs tram
north, good length, some on leg, handy
trade quality and ideal shop weights,
weight 33 lb, pelt 6d, at 20/1.
60 Dorset with a few Border Leicester
cross from Lower North, November shorn,
uneven In type, medium to good length,

With the introduction of meet ration
ing, the demand from the trade lacked
animation, with the result that values
for all classes ot sheep and lambs
showed a reduction. Tne fall was least
noticeable for ewes suitable for fanning.
Exporters were not operating freely on
wetben, but the values for lambs were
generally above export parity.

Pig Prices Ease
With a penning of 2.450 pigs, there was
another heavy supply at this week's mar
ket, the total including 100 stores. Last
week 2,800 pigs were penned.
Quality, on the whole, was good, al
though selected lines ot handywelgtft
baconers were again lightly supplied.
Choppers were well supplied, but. with a
strong demand. last week's rates were
maintained. Bacpners were well snp
plled, and the ottering again included
many pens of heavyweights. The de
mand throughout was weaker, and. ex
cept for selected lines of nandrwelsnts.
all classes changed hands at lower rates.
Underweight pigs were more numerous,
and, in sympathy with lower baeoner
prices changed hands at lower rates.
The demand for stores was again fairly
strong, and last week's rates wen main
tained.

There was a slightly heavier penning of
calves. 750 being submitted, compared
with 700 last week. The demand was
weaker and values for all classes were
easier.
