RULES OF CRICKET.
LEG BEFORE WICKET!.
THE PROPOSED ALTERATION.
London, May 1.
Great interest is being taken by cricketers
in the proposed alteration of the rule as to
leg-before wicket.
Lord Hawke and Messrs. A. P. Lucas,
J. K. Mason, H. G. Owen, P. F. Warner,
and D. L. A., Jephson, all well-known
cricketers in England, have issued a manifesto,
in which they state that the adoption
of the proposed alteration will encourage
blind sloggiDg and ruin club and local
cricket.
Dr. W. G. Grace has expressed the
opinion that the alteration would benefit
I. first-class cricket, inasmuch as it would
lessen the number of draws but he thinks
that it would harm club cricket where the
umpiring was doubtful. ,
