Wool Customer
CANBERRA, April 8.
Japan was Australia s
third best customer for
wool for the eight months
ended February, accord
ing to official figures.
Japan bought 95,591,000 1b.
of greasy wool, valued at
£36,449,000, compared with
61,767,000 lb., valued at
£25,979,000 in the eight
months to the end of Feb
ruary, 1952.
The UK remained Austra
lia's best customer, purchas
ing 238,864,000 lb., valued at
E82.937.000, compared with
126,608,000 lb., valued at
E45,750,000 for the eight
months ended February,
1952.
France was the second best
customer in both years,
buying 99,134,000 lb., valued
at £32,219,000 for 1953, com
pared with 89,850,000 lb..
valued at £28,845,000 Tor the
eight months ended Feb
ruary, 1952.
The US bought only
about half as much for the
eight months of the recent
sales, compared with the
eight months to February,
1952.
For the period in 1952, the
US bought 88,686,000 lb.,
valued at £33,257,000, com
pared with 45,903,000 ib.,
valued at £17,166,000 for the
eight months ended Feb
ruary, 1953.
The total value of Austra
lia's wool exports for the
eight months ended Feb
ruary, 1953, was £222,962,000
for 636,871,000 lb. compared
with £181,357,000 for
502,559,000 lb. for the eight
months ended February,
1952.
