AERO CLUB
SUBSIDIES
Extension To Rural
Formations
MELBOURNE, Feb. 12: Sub
sidies now paid to the nine
principal Australian aero clubs
would be extended to country
aero clubs and commercial fly
ing training concerns, the Min
hter for Air (Mr. White) said
today.
The first object of the scheme,
he said, was to keep elementary
training organisations reasonably
equipped and staffed so that, in
an emergency, they could form
the nucleus of an expanded train
ing scheme for the Royal Aus
tralian Air Force. The second
was to train civilian pilots to pri
vate licence standard and keep
them in practice, so that they
would be available to the Air
Force if needed. Mr. White said
that the subsidy would be con
centrated on those learning to fly
before 30 years of age. No pay
ments would be made for aliens
or unnaturalised new Australians.
