SMASH-AND-GRAB RAID ON
BOULDER .. SHOP
KALGOORLIE, April 23: Watches worth about £100
were stolen in- a daring smash-and-grab raid in
Boulder early this morning by .a thief who escaped
on a motor cycle.
About 2.30 o'clock this.morn
ing a man hurled an engineer's
hammer through the..plate-glass
window: of Mr., Frank Sclan
ders's jewellery shop in Burt
street,. Boulder, hastily grabbed
what he could from the windoiw
and disappeared at high speed
on the pillion seat of a motor
cycle which.an accomplice had
kept idling at the kerbside.
Constable E. Cunnington said
that he heard a motor cycle
start. up, -and the . crash of
breaking glass, when he was
near a lane at the rear of the
Boulder post office, about 100
yards from the burgled shop.
He dashed towards the, spot
and as he neared the store two
men on a motor cycle left the
front of it at high speed..
He found that the store win
dow was shattered, and an en
gineer's hammer was lying in
side it. A man's wrist watch
was lying on the pavement
under the . broken, window and
a man's hat, which had ap
parently fallen from the head
of one of the thieves, was
found on the roadway near
where the motor cycle had been
parked.
Mr. Sclanders after an investi
gation said that he thought that
nine men's wrist watches of
a total value of about £ 100
had been removed from the
window.
