U.S. FOREIGN
POLICY
"True Bi-Partisan"
Approach
WASHINGTON, April 19:
President Truman assured the
Republicans yesterday that they
would be kept informed and
their views solicited in an effort
to establish a "true bi-partisan
foreign policy."
In a statement issued after he
had conferred with Senator
Styles Bridges, a Republican
member of the Senate Appro
priations Committee, President
Truman said: "With the prob
lems facing the United States
in the field of foreign relations,
it is most important that every
effort be made to maintain a
true bi-partisan policy. It will
be my purpose, as well as. that
of the Secretary of State (Mr.
Acheson), not only to keep
members of the minority cur
rently informed, but to solicit
its views and take them into
serious account in both the
formulation and implementa
tion of our foreign policy."
Senator Bridges was sum
moned to the White House as
a senior Republican from the
point of service in the absence
of Senator Arthur Vandenberg,
who is ill.
