A substitute for blood
which might make Australia
a leader in blood research
had been develoned bv the
Red Cross transfusion
:aboratory in Brisbane, the
Queensland director of the
Red Cross Transfusion Ser
vice (Dr. E. Shaw) said to
night.
The substitute had been
produced after years of
work. It was , a by-product
from red cells.
The product could only be
oroduced on a pilot scale at
ore-sent.
Years of clinical trials
vould be necessary before it
vas proved.
It opened up. however, a
'iuge 'experimental field .in
