COAL REFERENCE BOARD.
The Collie Miners' Request.
CANBERRA, Jan 30.--In the
House of Representatives on Thurs
day Mr Prowse ý(WA) asked the
Minister for Labour and National
service: "WilI he inform the House
why the request of the miners at
Collie for the appointment of a coal
reference board has not been gran
ted?"
The Minister for Labour (Mr
Ward) replied: "During the last 2
years boards of referenbe have been
appointed under the National Se
curity (Industrial Peace) Regulations
to deal with local industrial mat
ters which have arisen from time to
time. The chairman of those boards
has been Mr W. J. -Wallwork. It
has not been thought necessary to
set up a permanent board of refer
ence under the National Security
(Coa MMinlng Industry Employment)
Regulations. I have no direct appli
cation for a board, although it has
been discussed more than once."
