Moscow Asks For.
Termination
MOSCOW, May 14: The Tass
Agency says that the Soviet
Charge d'Affaires in Athens on
behalf of his Government yes
terday officially asked the
Greek Government to end im
mediately the present mass exe
cutions of "Greek democrats."
He was instructed to hand
the following statement to the
Greek Foreign Minister: "The
Soviet Government deems it
necessary to call the attention
of the Greek Government to
the Soviet people's indignation
at the mass executions of Greek
democrats at present taking
place in Greece. These execu
tions of Greek patriots who
fought against the German in
vaders can have no justification
in the eyes of the civilised
world. The Soviet public ex
pects an immediate termination
of these executions, which in
cense the conscience of the
peoples. The Soviet Govern
ment fully shares these senti
ments of the Soviet public."
ATHENS, May 14: A court
has sentenced in her absence Ely
Lambridis, formerly of the
Press Department of the Greek
Embassy in London, to 2t
years' imprisonment for "anti
nationalist jpopaganda." Miss
Lambridis translated into Greek
the novel of the Australian
author James Aldridge, "Signed
with Their Honour," which was
published in 1942. The Greek
Government had previously de
prived her of her nationality
for being "an agent of a foreign
Power."
