UNEMPLOYED MEN MEET.
A public meeting was held at Arundale
Hall last night to discuss the conditions
of the unemployed. A deputation was
selected to wait on the Minister for Ern
ployment in the near future with the fol
lowing proposals:-That the unemployed
receive a more sympathetic administra
tion by the Department of Employment;
that single men be allowed £2/10/ per
week instead of £1/10/; that three meal
tickets be issued per day instead of two,
and that their value be raised to 1/; and
that sustenance be granted seven days
after the completion of work. It was also
decided by the meeting to seek permis
sion from the Commissioner of Police
for the chairman of the unemployed
workers (Mr. J. Batkin) to hold street
meetings to deal with political and em
ployment questions.
