(By "Corinthian.")
Racebooks for tomorrow's W.A.T.C.
meeting will be available after 2.30 p.m.
today.
Entries on Tuesday.
Entries for the autumn meeting of the
W.A.T.C. to be held on May 18 are due
on Tuesday next, instead of Monday.
Taken on Lease.
Red Nic, who has shown fair form
lately, and Miss Troth have been taken
on lease by Jno. Duggan, of Fremantle.
Classic Won by DJebel
French-bred horses continue to win
their share of big races in England and
Djebel added to their record when he
scored in the Two Thousand Guineas
on Wednesday. He started at 9 to 4 and
won by two lengths from Stardust (100
to 9), with Tant Mieux (13 to 2), a head
off, third. There were 21 starters. Djebel
is a son of Tourbillon, and is favourite
for the New Derby to be run at New
bury next month.
Aurie's Star Favourite.
Aurle's Star is a short-priced favourite
for the S.A.J.C. Goodwood Handicap to
be run tomorrow, and provided that all
is well with him in the meantime he
will not be displaced from his position.
Yesterday the following prices were on
offer in Perth about the Goodwood Han
dicap field:-Evens Aurle's Star, 5 Burra
Jean, 6 Unishak, 7 Woolcombe, 8 Dream
some, 10 Operatic. As yet there is no
market available on the Adelaide Cup
to be run next Wednesday.
Death of Mr. James Barnes.
Mr. James Barnes, a prominent figure
for many years in business and sporting
circles in Sydney, died on Wednesday at
the age of 83. Mr. Barnes had
retired in February, 1929, from
the position of chairman of Tattersall's
Club, after having held that office since
1916. He had been a member of the
club since 1896, and had played a big
part in its advancement. On his retire
ment from the chairmanship, and as an
appreciation of his services, the com
mittee of the club named after him one
of the principal events run under the
club's auspices, the James Barnes Plate.
Mr. Barnes was president of the New
South Wales Trotting Club at the time
of his death. He had held that office
since 1914. Mr. Barnes raced a few
horses in his own colours, the most recent
being Satmoth, with which he won a
Tattersall's Club Cup.
Programme for Tomorrow.
Horses who have not appeared for some
weeks but who have been freshened up
and have good form to recommend them
will be outstanding candidates in races at
headquarters tomorrow, the opening day
of the W.A.T.C. May meeting, and among
these are Jiggle, Skylark and Sir Nathan.
Jiggle, winner of the Easter Cup, has not
raced for more than a month but that
she is fit she revealed by her sound trial
yesterday morning, and in the Kimber
ley Handicap tomorrow she looks the win
ner over her rival, Amalette. Coronis, and
Eastdel, who has worked well during the
week at Fremantle. Skylark previously
appeared in the Belmont Handicap a
month ago but the middle-distance beat
him on that occasion, and tomorrow he
is back to his favourite Journey in the
Karridale Handicap. He has been fresh
ened up since his race at Belmont, and
with a favourable weight he should run
up to his usual brilliant sprinting form
in the Karridale Handicap. Sir Nathan,
since coming to Perth from the Goldfields,
where he won the last Hannans Handi
cap, has had only one outing here, and
that was in the W.A.T.C. Avon lan
dicap more than a month sao, and in
which he was worn down in the run
home by Samoan Clipper. That run im
proved Sir Nathan and although he meets
stiff opposition in the Tahblelands Han
dicap tomorrow he has etent pros
pecs of winning. Fields for all events
at the meeting are good, and include some
of the best horses now in training. Hurdle
riders and amateurs will have the mounts
in the Hlghweight Handicap, in which
the minimum is 10.0, and when accept
ances fell due yesterday there were no
scratehings for this special event. This
race will open the programme at 2.15 panm.
