WORK FOR CHILDREN.
International Friendships.
More than 250 country children
are enjoying seaside holidays under
the auspices of the Country Wo
men's Association "Happy Holiday"
scheme, At South Beach the asso
ciation acquired buildings used dur
ing the war by the military authori
ties. To Adapt the quarters to the
special needs of the children, altera
tions costing about £1,000 were car
ried out, and now over 80 children
are in camp. Staying with them is
the State president of the associa
tion (Mrs F. A. Williams).
Another 80, who are lodged at the
Claremont showgrounds, yesterday
invited the children from South
Leach to join them in a sports pro
gramme and party. At Albany and
Busselton in the south, and Don
gara in the north, other groups of
children, drawn from the inland
areas of those districts. are also on
holiday.
Relief and Welfare.
Considerable stimulus should be
given to the work of the "Save the
Children" Fund in Australia by the
forthcoming visit of Miss Ferguson,
who was one of the British repre
sentatives at the international con
ference of the fund held at Geneva -
in September. At this conference it
was decided to adopt the name of
International Union for Child Wel
fare, and it is now the only inter
national organisation concerned ex
clusively with the relief and welfare
of children.
Miss Ferguson, who is due to
arrive at Fremantle on February 2,
helped to plan the United Children's
section of the fund, through which
it is hoped to build up friendships
between the children of different
countries being helped by* "Save the
Children" teams.
During the war years, Miss Fer
guson did outstanding work for Bri
tish children and since then has
been in close touch with European
committees of the fund. She will
be in Australia for about three
months, and will accept invitations
to address schools and meetings and
give broadcast talks. Further de
tails of her tour may be obtained
from Mrs. A. King, Cm- Australian
Broadcasting Commission, Perth, or
Mrs. L. Craig, Dardanup, W.A,
