FRIDAY'S BOUT.
Exhibition Tomorrow.
The much-awaited bout between
the former West Australian cham
pion, Leo Heaney, and the visiting
Malayan, Battling Sims, which has
been twice postponed owing to power
restrictions, will be held at the open
air stadium at the W.A.C.A. ground
on Friday night, when the summer
boxing season will be officially
opened. The promoter (Mr. Leon
Labriola) is confident that records
will be broken on Friday night and
that the crowd will be the biggest
at an open-air contest in Perth.
Both fighters have benefited dur
ing their enforced spell from the ring
and they should strip in perfect
condition. Heaney will have a legion
of supporters who will be keen to
see him win, but they realise that
the Malayan is a fast and cleveI
fighter and that Heaney will need
to be at his top to score.
Arrangements have been made for
both fighters to appear in exhibition
bouts during the week. Battling Sima
will spar on the Perth Esplanade be
tween 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow
and Heaney will be seen sparring
with leading local fighters between
1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
Another member of the visiting
Malayan troupe will be seen in the
main supporting bout, but his oppo
nent has not yet been selected. It
is also hoped that other members of
the troupe-there are five in all
will be seen in other bouts during the
evening.
This will be the only opportunity
that patrons will have of seeing
Battling Ss and the other Malay
asue in acin
