Full Rights For
Aborigines
Opposed
ALICE SPRINGS, Sept. 3.
Giving full blooded abori-
gines in the Northern Terri-
tory full citizen rights would
be a policy of extermination,
camouflaged as assimila-
tion, said Miss Olive Pink,
an independent worker on
behalf of aborigines in the
Territory.
She was referring to pro-
posals now being put before
the Minister of Territories
(Mr. Hasluck) on this and
other questions during his
visit to the Northern Terri
tory.
''Albert Namatjira has
told me that he does not
want a vote but wants his
taxes remitted,'' she said.
''Full citizen rights for him
would mean that the Com-
monwealth would continue
to get his taxes and call his
sons up for service in the
forces in return for an un
wanted vote.''
The only true justice to
the full blood was the aggre
gated education and de
velopment of the tribes as a
minority race within the
Commonwealth to ensure
them a future of their own
choosing when they were a
developed race, she said.
