SUPERPHOSPHATE.
Increase in Transport.
The Railway Department stated
yesterday that from December 1.
1944, to February 24 of this year
58.037 tons of superphosDhate had
been dispatched to country districts.
compared with 31.537 tons for the
corresponding period of last season.
Those figures represented the quan
tity sent from the three fertiliser
works in the metropolitan area and
did not include that transported
from CGeraldton and Picton Junc
tion factories. The superphosphate
delivered so far was less than half
the total quantity required.
The work of transportation had
been carried out in the face of con
siderable difficulties, which included
heavy wartime traffic. Water haul
age, too, had required the conver
sion of a number of trucks which
could otherwise have been utilised
for the carriage of superphosphates.
