Dust Delays Airliner's Flight.
Dust storms which swept over
Sduth Australia and Victoria on
Saturday delayed the flight of the
Melbourne airliner for six hours at
Nhll, Victoria, and the plane
reached Guildford South aerodrome
at 3 am yesterday. A passenger said
that the dust storm settled over the
aerodrome at Nhll shortly after the
airliner landed from Essendon. News
that Parafield aerodrome, South Aus

vented the plane's departure until
2 pm. On arrival at Parafleld it was
found that dust had given place to
light rain. From Parafleld westward
the flight was completed under com
fortable flying conditions.

A simple ceremony took place at
the State War Memorial yesterday
morning during which the retiring

Come Jetty.
The "deplorable" condition of the
Como jetty and the urgent need of
repairs to render it safe for use by
the public, was discussed at a recent
meeting of the South Perth Road
Board. Children had recently fallen
by stepping backward into a gaping
hole at the extreme end of the jetty,
one girl injuring her back and arm,
according to a letter received by the
board from the Como Amateur
Swimming and Life-Saving Club.
The club urged that the jetty be re
paired immediately. It was stated
that the club was extending its ac
tivity in teaching children to swim
and would start life-saving classes
on the following Sunday. These, it
was explained, had to be held at the
end of the jetty in the deep water
and it was here that the jetty was
extremely dangerous owing to "a
great many of the planks being miss
ing." The board decided to enlist
the services of Mr C. Cross, MLA, t?
approaching the Government with a
request that the work be put in hand.
