Farewell Smoke Social. ,
.? Ladt hight at the German Club the
Quartette Club and the Deutscher
Verein combined to give Mr. J. D.
Robertson, president of the former
body," who is leaving Broken Hill, a
fitting send-off. Mr. Robertson has
been connected with the Quartette
Club > from its inception over seven
years ago, and has been president
for seven years. Mr. Fred. Cleave
(vice-president) presided over a large
gathering, and Herr Schroeder repre-
sented the Deutscher Verein. In
proposing the health of the guest,
the chairman commented on the
many good qualities and general
amiability of the president, and
voiced . the regret of the whole of
the body in losing so enthusiastic a
member. As a Blight token of the
esteem in which he was held, the
chairman presented Mr. Robertson
with a case of four silver-mounted
'pipes. Herr Schroeder and several
others supplemented the chairman's
remarks,' and the toast was enthusi-
astically honored. After Mr. Robert-
son had responded,a pleasant evening
was spent in harmony. Songs were
contributed by Messrs. Hawkins,
S. A. M'Donald, Kermeen, Cropley,
Oswald Lower, Harding, Robertson,
Inman, and others, while some
rousing choruses were sung by the
Quartette Club.
