Thos. 'Middleton, aged 18 years, was
- arrested at Ballarat last night, charged
- with the murdcr.of his jrife. Both vwere
'.drunkards, particularly, /the - murdered
woman. . She was stabbed in the .left
breast with a knife, the blade-of ¡.which;
waa 4in. long. Middleton said' Ujàt she
had committed suicide, but the wife before
abe died, declared that4 Middleton ?had

.A terrible fatal accident occurred ,pn.
Sunday at Kaarimba, near Numurkah, in
the Nortu-Fastern district.. A. woman
named Higgs, the wife of a" farmer,-went
for a drive after dinner, and, while get-
ting out'of ^ the trap the horse bolted,
dragging Mrs. Higgs away. The buggy
collided wit$á dray¡¡ and the woman, who
was ISstSin^eight, was thrown tiffe-inttf
the air. When picked up she was dead.
Last night a collision occurred in the
river Tarra, between the ballast steamer
Blackall and the steam tug Sprightly. The
former sank, and a man named Jones, who
was on the Blackall, was drowned.
