INDIA CHARGES
PAKISTAN
'Active Assistance'
In Kashmir

NEW YORK, January 15.
The Pakistan Government was actively as-
sisting the invaders of Kashmir, the In-
dian Minister without Portfolio (Mr.
Ayangar) told the Security Council to-
day in presenting India's appeal for
mediation by the United Nations in
Kashmir.
Mr. Ayangar said that the situation in Jarnmu and
Kashmir was growing graver daily and the
Security Council should take urgent action to
end it The Indian Government could deal with
invaders by military means, bnt this might in-
volve the rise of armed conflict with Pakistan
From the beginning of
India's independence, Paki
stan bad tried to coerce
Kashmir into joining it. but
India had exerted no pres
sure at all. Mr. Ayangar de
clared.
Mr. Ayangar said:—"There is
ample proof available that the
Invaders of Kaslxmir are not
only being allowed transit
across Paid-tan territory, but
also draw much of their equip
ment arms, transport, supplies
and petrol from Pakistan
"we have ample evidence to
prove that the raiders include a
large number of Pakistan
Mr. Ayangar said that after
Indian troops had been attacked
at Jhangar by 6,000 invaders
armed with automatic weapons
and mortars, the Prime Minis
ter of India (Mr. Nehru) had
sent a formal letter to the Gov
ernor-General of Pakistan (Mr.
Jlnnah), in wriic— the TnHifln
Government had made a final
attempt to persuade Mr. Jinnah
to take steps to deny all assist
ance to the raiders.
"We received no reply for a
week and then brought the mat
ter to this council's notice.**
Mr. Ayangar said that India
wished tbe Security Council:—
To prevent Pakistan Govern
ment personnel from partici
pating In or assisting the in
vasion of Jarnmu and Kash
mir.
To call on Pakistan naiJonais to
desist from taking part In the
fighting; and
' To call on Pakistan to deny the
invaders access to and use of
territory for operations against
Kashmir, and refuse military
and other supplies and all
other aid that might tend to
prolong the present struggle.
When Mr. Ayangar finished.
tbe council adjourned until 2.30
pjn. tomorrow, when the Pakis
tan Foreign Minister (Sir Zaf
-r—lab Khan) will reply.
