RESTRICTIONS ON
USE OF WATER
Permit For Public
Bodies' Sprinklers
It is expected chat today the
Executive Council will approve of
regulations restricting the use of
sprinklers and providing that hoses
shall be held in the hand. There
appears to be no doubt, however,
that the regulations will allow for
a certain use of sprinklers for pub
lic bodies where the use is under
strict supervision and where per
mits have been obtained.
It was proposed, Mr. Mclntosh
said yesterday, that permits should
be given for the use of sprinklers
by authorities controlling public
parks and gardens, sporting bodies
and commercial gardens. These
sprinklers must be under constant
supervision. The permits would
provide for a material reduction in
the quantity of water used. There
would be a needless waste of man- <
powe- if it was insisted in those
cases that the hoses should be held
in the hand.
In the Assembly yesterday, re
plying to Mr. Dale (ALP), Mr.
Mclntosh said that water from the
Torrens was now being used by the
Adelaide City Council for watering
streets.
