Newmarket Sales
MELBOURNE, November 21.
The demand for fat sheep was again
dull at Newmarket today, and prices
showed a further fall, averaging 1/6 to
2/6 below recent reduced rates, with
plain and secondary sorts hard to quit
at very low figures. Ewes comprised the
bulk of the offering, with wethers only
moderately represented. Quotations: —
Good trade wethers, 14/ to 17/ (3d. to
3-i.d.i: prime ewes. 14/ to 17/1 (2**id.
to 2*til.); useful trade quality. 7/6 to
12/ (l%d. to 2d.); rough and Inferior,
1/ to 3/.
Plain and secondary sorts comprised
the bull- of the oftering tn the fat lambs'
section. Competition was only fair, and
values generally showed a very slight
improvement on the reduced rates rul
ing last Thursday. Quotations: —Prime
heavy. 23/ to 28/: odd lots, to 32/1:
shorn, to 26/ (6d. to ei.d.l; prime light
and medium weights. 19/ to 22/6 (6**,d
to 6..d>: middling grades. 14/ to 19/
(sd. to 5?,d.t.
The market for store sheep on the
whole was easier, only odd pens of young
ewes making late rates.
