LABOR PLANS ON
BANKING
"System To Be Made
More Economical"
"The Federal Government has
the whole question of banking
under consideration, and whatever
it does in the matter will be in the
direction of making the system
more efficient and economical in
I the interests of everybody con
cerned.' said the Minister lor Air
! exalt Production (Senator Came
ron) in Adelaide last night.
I He was referring to a report that
the Government was planning to
introduce a Bill next year to ex
!tend control over banking and to
expand the activities of the Com
monwealth Bank.
Senator Cameron said that no
member of the government would
be foolish enough to make the
existing system of banking more
difficult than it was. Banking
should be organised ior the con
venience of the people rather than
for the enrichment of share
holders.
