TAXATION APPEALS.
TRIBUNAL PROPOSAL.
Cabinet Abandons Consideration.
MELBOURNE, June 2.--A recommen
dation by the Royal Commission on Taxa
tlon that a Federal and State appellate
taxation tribunal should be established
will not be implemented by the Federal
Ministry. It was suggested that the ap
pellate tribunal should replace the exist
ing Taxation Board of Review.
After a meeting of the Federal Cabinet
today, the Acting-Prime Minister (Dr.
Page) said that it had not been possible
to obtain the co-operation of the' States
in establishing an appellate tribunal The
Cabinet, therefore, considered that no
good purpose would be served by con
tinuing discussion on it at the present
stage.
It is believed that the term of appoint
ment of the Board of Review, which will
shortly expire, wil be renewed for six
months.
