' Otir' correspondent writes: Weather
conditions at Chillagoe for the past
-week have, been ideal, with cloudless
\skkls and just sufficient nip in the air
.to1 make one .> feel energetic. Much
'isympathy is expressed for residents
lu, the coastal area, who have been uu
'äble to participate in the Hasler cele-
brations owing to the wet'and squally
weather- which has prevailed there. Tt

living in the hack country. Apparent-
ly the alien influx is not being welcom-
ed at Mungana, one of its residents in
particular having Mt so keenly about
thc matter that he went so far as to
assault au Italian for no other reason,
according to the evidence, than that
he was a "dago." Thc injured one,
Peter Corlatti, promptly consulted his
solicitor, with thc result that, thc of-
fender, one George May, was supi
moncd to appear at the Police Court,
Chillagoe, on Thursday« last, 16th inst.
H<! failed to appear, and Mr. R. A.
'Dunlop, P.M., heard the case ex parte;
.Vir. D. C. Mc Diarmid'appeared for
Gorlatti, who stated tn . evidence; that
bc was a miner employed at the.G|r
bfla State Mine. Ou 7th April he was
on thc- brace at crib time. Defendant,
came to the mine for wafer. He saw
complainant there, and called him a
"dago --." and hit him . twice on
j the jaw. Witness did uot hit back,
bttt ran away, and later complained to
i Mr.. Paulctt and to Constable Rut-
ledge. , Witness had not previously
had, any/row with,May, and did not
giye him any, provocation. His Wor-
ship inflicted a fine of ll, with costs
amounting to £3/2/6, in default seven
days' imprisonment.
