Hand Over Power to Deal
With Communists
Queensland Likely to Refuse
i BRISBANE, June 25.-Queensland is almost j
certain to refuse to hand over to the Federal Gov-
ernment powers to deal with Communism. The mat-
ter, which already has been discussed by the Labour
Party's Queensland central executive, will come be-
fore the Cabinet to-morrow.
The Cabinet is expected to submit a recommen-
dation to the State Parliamentary Caucus meeting
on Wednesday. This probably will be in keeping
with the decision of the 1948 Federal A.L.P. con-
ference which "repudiated the methods and prin-
ciples of Communism,'*, but decided that any pro-
posals for the banning of any political party, no
matter how repugnant, should be rejected.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA AGREES
ADELA IDE, June 25.-The South
Australian Premier (Mr. Tv Play-
ford) said to-day he had sent a
telegram to the Prime Minister
(Mr. E. G. Menzies) stating that a
Bill would be introduced at the
next session of Parliament to en-,
able South Australia to transfer
powers to the Federal Government
to deal with Communism.
